Poem #30

Special.
Short, full, tan, and almond eyes,
plain surface, normal physical wall,
dull face from the everyday.
But don’t judge this book by its cover,
for I have things beyond looks to offer,
something you don’t see every day.
See, each one is made for a purpose,
with the help of the above,
and the ecstasy the Most High.
You’re different, in a good way,
though you’ll be discouraged daily,
all you have to do is look up the sky.

Poem #29

Tranquility.
It is not living in bliss,
not in sunny days,
in leisure,
idleness,
do I find myself close to you.
Only in burdens,
in continuous tempests,
in anguish,
despair,
will I find peace in you.
In the core of it all,
my heart will find clear silence,
soothing rest,
quiescence,
for I find comfort with you.

Poem #28

Night.
Crescent moon plastered on a face
the concave side up, shooting stars on eyes,
deemed as radiance, disguised as darkness,
miserable, overcast skies;
they are not stars,
they are rain drops,
merely refracting artificial lights
falling down, jumping from clouds,
which blanket this evening sun,
as it will sleep, waiting for the morning star.

Poem #27

Temporary.
At some point
petals and leaves will fall
helium balloons will float away
through the wind, they’ll pass by,
like every single day.

Poem #26

Projection.
I keep on pointing out theirs,
Condescending on their reactions,
Of how things are against them,
Blaming them for irrationality
Their flaws, every little thing that
Ticks me off,
Spears my nerves,
Then I realize
It’s not because of them,
It’s because of me
I, myself, am those mistakes,
Each little thing, I contain in my body

Poem #25

Chrysanthemum.

Time came,
for our lovers to reunite,
after a long time,
after stolen sight.
A yellow dress she wore
and he, a green suit
he carried her as they danced,
the whole world, mute.
They moved to the song of the wind,
they waltzed by the trees,
twirling about gracefully,
through the cool breeze.
Time came
for the lovers to separate,
two different ways,
possibly, with unknown fate

Poem #24

Great-Grandfather

As a child,
I was allotted stories,
legendary ones,
that made me sit in awe,
jaws dropped, eyes widened,
about my great-grandfather.
A valiant man,
full of tenacity,
stubborn,
and would not give up.
The Japanese attacked,
he was given a chance,
he didn’t give it a glance,
sacrificing his life,
instead of his pride.
I wish I was as stubborn as he,
he knew when to say no,
he knew when to say yes,
unlike the pushover me.
Instead of Jap soldiers,
I had countless offers,
different responsibilities,
many priorities,
I don’t know how to say no.
But I shall strive,
to be like the First,
to stand up for myself,
for what I believe in,
even if it means losing the world.

Poem #23

Rosella.

Anxiety struck me,
I looked,
the skies started to cry,
then I saw it come
flying right at me,
penetrating my chest,
piercing where she used to rest,
with her head under my chin.
He ran to me,
he who pulled the trigger,
reminding me
of how she used to,
with open arms,
her face glowing with joy;
he also had joy,
but it was mixed with guilt.
I lay on the ground,
looking back at the weeping expanse,
each drop embalming me,
easing my pain, comforting me,
for I knew we were beneath the same sky.
In the midst of the war noises—
soldiers shouting,
gunshots firing,
bombs detonating,
pain flowing out of me;
all I heard was her voice,
sweet, soft, comforting voice
singing to me, a lullaby,
with a loving expression,
on a face brightened by warmth,
blushed with roses,
a face that I was never to kiss once more.

Poem #22

Edges.
First breath
A newborn cries
Cradled in loving arms
Fragile, innocent of this world
Blameless.
Broken
Stained, damaged by the corrupt world
Where arms of comfort, gone,
An old one cries
Last breath.

Poem #21

Block.
Denying does not change reality
like calling yellow, red
the honeycomb, sour,
light, dark.
However, it seems
it is only means
of escaping, ceasing,
to run away from it.
Why is that?
